Damselfly picked to become the official state insect

The vivid dancer damselfly, nominated by fourth-graders at Beatty Elementary School in southeast Las Vegas, has been selected as the official insect of Nevada, state Sen. Joyce Woodhouse, D-Henderson, announced today.

The damselfly was selected from a field of 74 different bugs, all nominated by Nevada schoolchildren.

Woodhouse and Assemblyman Lynn Stewart, R-Henderson, are drawing up a bill to designate the state insect.
