UNLV holds 50th commencement Sunday

UNLV will celebrate its 50th commencement today with about 2,500 graduates receiving diplomas.

Ceremonies are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Since its original days in the early 1950s, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has become the largest public university in the state.

It has awarded more than 109,000 degrees since its original graduating class in 1964, when the school was known as Nevada Southern University.
