Woman hospitalized after North Las Vegas fire

A woman is in critical condition after inhaling smoke in a Friday afternoon house blaze in North Las Vegas, the fire department said.

Fire crews about 2:45 p.m. responded to the blaze in the 2400 block of Ellis Street, near the intersection of Carey Avenue and Belmont Street, the North Las Vegas Fire Department said Friday night.

When they arrived, firefighters found heavy smoke coming out of a single-story house, which was considered a total loss worth $129,500, the fire department said.

Firefighters rescued the woman who was still inside the house when they arrived, the fire department said. She was taken to University Medical Center where she's being treated for smoke inhalation.

Investigators determined the fire was accidental and due to smoking, but it remains under investigation.
