Las Vegas Valley businesses and residents are showing that American success stories are possible, even in the face of economic strife. This week, ViewNews is highlighting local successes in each of its editions.
From basic services, such as food and energy, to Western movie props and off-road vehicle rental, the Las Vegas Valley has a diverse range of local companies.
North Las Vegas-based SasaPops found a home at local farmers markets and Whole Foods stores. Siblings Joe Vergara and Liza Vergara-Gross co-founded the frozen desert bar company, and SasaPops has expanded its base of workers to 12 since 2011.
Success isn't just found in the culinary industry. Henderson-based K2 Energy develops lithium iron phosphate batteries, which can last three times as long as other batteries, said Lysle Oliveros, marketing manager for the company.
K2 Energy, founded in 2006 by Johnnie Stoker, has more than 100 employees and two factories in China.
The valley also induces businesses to move operations here. Zappos Inc., which moved to Henderson a few years ago, will set up shop in downtown Las Vegas. Citibank has put its headquarters in Summerlin.
