Las Vegas Fire and Rescue extinguished a vehicle fire downtown Saturday morning that hospitalized a person.

Authorities were dispatched to railroad tracks behind the Smith Center for Performing Arts about 8:30 a.m., department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

A vehicle was on fire and the driver was taken to University Medical Center with a leg injury, Szymanski said.

Smoke plumes could be seen from Interstate 15.

The fire was being investigated by the Union Pacific Railroad police, Szymanski said.
