El Tiempo names new publisher
Maria Matta-Caro, editor of the Spanish-language El Tiempo, has been named publisher and editor of the weekly publication, Mark Ficarra, publisher of Las Vegas Review-Journal, announced Friday.
“I’m proud to put Maria in this position. She has done an excellent job as editor and her mission has always been to provide the Hispanic community with important and interesting information that benefit their lives. I’m sure Maria will serve admirably the Hispanic community.”
Matta-Caro, 30, was an El Tiempo reporter for about three years before becoming its editor in January. All told, she has more than nine years of experience in multi-national communication, journalism and public relations.
“I’m honored to be named publisher of El Tiempo”, said Matta-Caro, who is a native of Colombia. “The Hispanic community plays a huge role in Nevada and my commitment is to keep working for my community. We are growing and we will keep working to strengthen the product in order to better serve our community.”
El Tiempo and the Las Vegas Review-Journal are owned by Las Vegas-based Stephens Media Group, which publishes 8 daily newspapers, about 60 weekly newspapers and more than 100 websites operating in seven states. El Tiempo publishes 60,000 copies each Friday.
