Firefighters organization warns against phone scam

Residents who receive a phone call soliciting money for firefighters take heed: The Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada never asks the public for donations over the phone.

According to a statement from association President Rusty McAllister, numerous residents have contacted him about such calls. He said the caller has been seeking financial donations to pay for training and to provide care to injured firefighters.

"We never solicit money from the community by telephone," McAllister said. "We fundraise for charities such as the Muscular Dystrophy Association through our boot drive, but as an organization we never ask the public for money, much less over the phone."

McAllister encourages people to spread the word about the bogus phone campaign.
