Man arrested after rollover near Jean

A man was taken into custody Friday afternoon after a car stolen from a Jean casino parking lot rolled over during a chase involving the Nevada Highway Patrol.

At 4:09 p.m., a Honda Accord was reported stolen from the Gold Strike parking lot in Jean, Trooper Jason Buratczuk said.

At 4:13, an NHP trooper initiated a traffic stop at Interstate 15 near mile marker 18, but when the Accord failed to stop, the trooper engaged in a pursuit at 4:15 p.m., Buratczuk said.

While the NHP trooper was pursuing the vehicle, Metropolitan Police Department officers were deploying spike strips ahead of the vehicle on Las Vegas Boulevard South, Buratczuk said. The driver of the vehicle, whom police said was driving at a high rate of speed, swerved to avoid the spikes and rolled the car.

At 4:17 p.m., the car rolled over at Las Vegas Boulevard and Erie Avenue, and the driver fled on foot into an adjacent desert area, Buratczuk said. The vehicle came to rest on its roof.

Police then established a perimeter around the desert area, and at 4:26 p.m., the man was arrested east of the boulevard.

He was transported to University Medical Center, but no other injuries were reported, Buratczuk said.

The man will be booked into Clark County Detention Center on several felony charges once he is released from the hospital, Buratczuk said.
