Man shot and killed in northwest Las Vegas parking lot identified

A man shot and killed outside of a northwest valley strip mall Tuesday has been identified by the Clark County coroner.

Jamal Hankins, 23, was involved in an argument in front of a smoke shop on the southwest corner of Rancho Drive and Cheyenne Avenue just before he was shot about 9 p.m., police said.

Witnesses told detectives that Hankins was “known to frequent the area on a skateboard.” His skateboard remained at the scene.

Hankins was shot once in the parking lot before he attempted to run away and was shot again. He died in the parking lot of a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest, according to the coroner.

The shooter fled the scene.

Andy Taylor, 53, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the shooting. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of murder with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and possession of a stolen firearm, police said.
