No adults home when Vegas boy, 8, apparently shot, killed himself

There were no adults at home when an 8-year-old boy apparently shot and killed himself Saturday evening in the southwest valley, according to Las Vegas police.

The Las Vegas boy, identified Sunday by the Clark County coroner’s office as Clayton James Singleton, died from a gunshot wound, police said. He lived at the house police were called to about 5:30 p.m. in the 9100 block of Wine Cellar Avenue, near the intersection of Pebble and South Fort Apache roads.

The coroner’s office did not release Clayton’s official cause of death and on Sunday hadn’t determined the manner in which he died.

It wasn’t immediately clear what happened, but police on Sunday said there were no adults home at the time of the shooting and that the firearm that killed Clayton belonged to someone who lives at the house.

Neighbors, who did not want to be identified by the Review-Journal on Saturday night, said Clayton’s sister, 6, screamed about blood as she was rushed from the scene.

It wasn’t clear who called the police.

Metro’s abuse and neglect detectives are investigating. No charges have been announced.
