Pair hospitalized after crashing moped while evading Las Vegas police

A man and woman are in the hospital after crashing a moped while evading Las Vegas police Thursday afternoon.

Police received a call about 12:10 p.m. from a resident in the 6400 block of Acorn Oaks Street reporting that a man and woman on a moped had stolen a package from the resident’s porch.

The caller provided a description of the pair from the security camera on the porch, police said.

Police located a man and woman, who matched the description, on a moped in the area of Durango Drive and Russell Road. Police initiated a traffic stop, but the moped driver did not comply, Metro officer Laura Meltzer said.

The moped went into a wash near Tenaya Way, emerged from the wash and then crashed with another vehicle near Tropicana Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard.

Officer Michael Rodriguez later said the man and woman on the moped both were cited for petit larceny. The two were taken to University Medical Center. Their condition was not immediately available.
