Touro University names new provost

Touro University Nevada announced it has hired former UNLV administrator Raymond W. Alden, III to be provost of its Henderson campus.

Alden was most recently the vice president for international affairs at Northern Illinois University, where he had also served as provost. He served as executive vice president and provost at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas from 2000 to 2006 before going to Illinois.

Alden’s academic career began in the sciences after receiving a doctorate in zoology from the University of Florida.

Alden said he looked forward to returning to Southern Nevada and working to prepare students to respond to the needs of the community.

“Nevada clearly needs the high quality health care and education professionals that TUN produces. This dynamic young institution is clearly ‘on the rise’ and it will be exciting to be part of its growth and development,” Alden said.

Touro’s chief executive officer and senior provost and former congresswoman Shelley Berkley called Alden a great leader in higher education.

“His experience and commitment to graduate education and research will help Touro continue to meet the needs of Nevada. As Touro grows, Dr. Alden will assist me in guiding our programs to address the health care and education needs for the state,” she said.

The 11-year-old university has more than 1,300 students.
