Vegas planning chief takes Palm Springs job

After 11 years with the city of Las Vegas, Planning Director Flinn Fagg has been hired by Palm Springs as director of planning services.

Fagg begins his new job on Sept. 15. His new annual salary will be $160,068.

While his salary will be an increase from the $145,000 he makes in Las Vegas, he said he was excited to be working with the “wonderful architectural heritage and history” in Palm Springs, particularly the mid-century structures.

Palm Springs, according to Fagg, has a downtown revitalization plan underway and he looks forward to what he called “this exciting time in the city’s history.”

City Manager Betsy Fretwell described Fagg as “invaluable” as the planning director. “He led efforts to merge business licensing with planning and was also integrally involved in many significant planning issues.”

She credited Fagg for helping to streamline the comprehensive planning process at the Legislature. “Through his efforts we have a more efficient planning department for our citizens,” Fretwell said.

Fretwell said Tom Perrigo will serve as interim director while she evaluates a permanent replacement.

Perrigo served as deputy director of planning before he became the deputy administrative services director overseeing the city’s sustainability efforts, which have received national attention.
