Arizona cop resigns amid rape allegation
KINGMAN, Ariz. — A Bullhead City police sergeant facing prosecution for sex offenses on both sides of the Colorado River has resigned his position.
City Manager Toby Cotter said Jesse Hoag, 37, was to be interviewed Wednesday as part of an ongoing internal investigation but that he instead submitted his letter of resignation.
The 11-year veteran of the department was placed on paid leave in early October when a young woman reported that Hoag raped her in Arizona after they shared drinks and left a Laughlin bar together.
Police records reflect that the alleged victim, a Mohave Community College student taking a criminal justice class taught by Hoag, conceded that she consented to sexual activity at first but claimed that he forced himself upon her when she asked him to stop.
Three weeks after the incident, Hoag was arrested in Laughlin after another young woman claimed Hoag attempted to sexually assault her after they left the same bar.
Hoag has been indicted on sexual assault charges in Arizona but neither his attorney Robert Draskovich of Las Vegas nor the Clark County district attorney’s office has returned phone calls seeking information on the status of legal proceedings in Nevada.
