Kingman councilman, fiancee face charges after domestic disturbance call

A city councilman from Kingman, Ariz., and his fiancee were arrested after La Paz County sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call on New Year’s Eve.

Kingman councilman Mark Wimpee, 54, and Kingman dentist Dr. Susan Haynes, 52, each face one count each of disorderly conduct and assault. Both are misdemeanors.

The couple had been camping in the desert near the Colorado River community of Parker when the emergency call came in, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies went out about 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 31.

When deputies got there, Wimpee and Haynes both appeared to have been drinking alcohol and fighting, and each had minor injuries, sheriff’s Lt. Curt Bagby said. The pair were taken into custody.

Both bonded out of jail and will later appear in Parker Justice Court on the misdemeanor charges.

Haynes was not immediately available for comment, but Wimpee said he expects to be cleared of the charges.

“It’s a difficult situation, very sensitive,” Wimpee said. “I’m completely innocent. When it goes to the courts it will come out that way.”
