Motorcyclist struck, killed by semitrailer near Searchlight identified

The Clark County coroner has identified the motorcyclist who died after being struck by a semitrailer Tuesday on U.S. Highway 95 near Searchlight.

The motorcyclist, Larry Long, 59, of North Las Vegas, was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died, Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.

About 7 a.m., a gray 2007 Honda Shadow motorcycle and a 1997 red Freightliner semi-trailer were northbound on U.S. Highway 95 in the right travel lane. The motorcycle was ahead of the Freightliner.

For unknown reasons, the front of the Freightliner struck the rear of the motorcycle, ejecting the rider, Stuenkel said.

At the time of the crash, dense fog was reported in the area. Speed does not appear to be a factor, Stuenkel said.

It marks the Nevada Highway Patrol-Southern Command’s 57th fatal crash, resulting in 69 fatalities for 2016.
