Sandoval names new communications chief

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval on Thursday announced that starting Monday, Mari Nakashima St. Martin will join his office as communications director. St. Martin currently serves as communications director with Sandoval’s re-election campaign.

St. Martin’s previous experience includes employment with a private marketing and public relations firm in Las Vegas and the campaigns and congressional offices of Rep. Joe Heck and Sen. Dean Heller, both R-Nev. In 2012 she was an unsuccessful candidate for the state Senate in District 9.

“Mari brings with her an extensive amount of experience in the fields of communication and public relations,” Sandoval said. “Having worked in both the private and public sector, Mari has a great understanding of the communities we serve and will be a strong asset to my administration. I am pleased she has accepted the position and look forward to her joining the team.”

St. Martin is a native Nevadan who grew up in Ely and graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She is married to Jack St. Martin and the couple has two daughters, Darla and Scarlett.

Sandoval also announced that Press Secretary Tyler Klimas will be joining the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange as communications officer starting Monday.
