North Las Vegas justice of the peace decides to not run next year

Stephen Dahl, a North Las Vegas justice of the peace, announced this week he won't seek re-election .

Dahl, who is in his third term in office, said he was announcing his plans now so that those who might be interested in running next year for the Justice Court Department 1 seat have adequate time to launch a campaign.

Dahl, 56, was first elected in 1995. He is former president of the Clark County Bar Association and the Clark County Law Foundation and has served on various boards and committees, including the Nevada Supreme Court Indigent Defense Commission and the Eighth Judicial District Pro Bono Foundation.

This year he was presented with the Lifetime Jurist Achievement Award by the Nevada Judges of Limited Jurisdiction. He often has been the top-rated justice of the peace in Clark County in the bi-annual Review-Journal/Clark County Bar Association "Judging the Judges" survey.
