Woman dead after North Las Vegas shooting

A 70-year-old woman was killed and her husband was arrested in a North Las Vegas shooting Monday afternoon, police said.

The woman, who was shot at least once, was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition and later died, said officer Aaron Patty of North Las Vegas police.

Her husband, Arthur Mattox, 78, called 911. Police said he told first responders he shot his wife after they had an argument. He was being booked into the Las Vegas Detention Center to face one count of murder with a deadly weapon, Patty said Monday night.

Officers and a medical crew were called about 1:30 p.m. to the 2300 block of Plumeria Avenue, near the intersection of Losee and Lone Mountain roads, according to logs of the North Las Vegas Fire Department.
