Hasselhoff keeping his handlers busy

David Hasselhoff's spin doctors have been busy in the wake of that now-infamous video that shows the loaded "Baywatch" star barely able to eat a hamburger.

His 16-year-old daughter, Taylor, reportedly filmed it in a suite at Paris Las Vegas the night Hasselhoff missed two performances of "The Producers."

After his April 20 no-show, I sent an e-mail to Hasselhoff's publicist, Judy Katz, to check on his status.

Her response: "David did not do the show last night or the matinee today. He had some kind of stomach thing going on. Apparently he and Joe, his driver, stopped and had some fast food yesterday afternoon that didn't agree with either one of them."

Hasselhoff's affection for fast food was evident in the video when he appeared to have more interest in a giant hamburger than assuring his daughter he would stay clean and sober.

When the video surfaced, Hasselhoff's handlers told the media that he had his daughter film him drunk so he could see how awful he acted while under the influence.

The tape revealed that Hasselhoff's daughter was concerned that he was going to be tested, "and you're going to be fired from the show." While she pleads for him to stop drinking, he is heard f-bombing her.

Another attempt at spin came when the media were told the video was shot three months ago.

Hasselhoff, who often shows up amid the nightclub sightings in this column, released a statement Friday saying he was a recovering alcoholic.

His three-month contract with the show as outrageously gay director Roger Debris ends with tonight's two performances.

THE SCENE AND HEARD

The combination of one of the biggest boxing matches in years and Cinco de Mayo falling on the weekend jammed Las Vegas with New Year's Eve-like crowds Friday and Saturday. Pure, the megaclub at Caesars Palace, reported a record night Friday, with demand for VIP tables exceeding Britney Spears' New Year's Eve appearance. VIP tables were going for $20,000, with Jessica Simpson a big draw in her role as host, a club exec said. ...

Mario Lopez, an Oscar De La Hoya fan since the latter won a gold medal in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, told me he sparred with De La Hoya on Monday.
