Wisconsin delegates rally behind Trump
CLEVELAND – The Republican field of presidential candidates started out with 17 before Donald Trump became the party’s nominee, and many states besides New York once had candidates.
That’s true for Wisconsin delegates, who sit right in front of the Nevada delegation on the floor of the 2016 Republican National Convention. For Wisconsin residents, it was Gov. Scott Walker, who made a short-lived bid for the presidency and dropped out of the race in September 2015 as money dried up.
Wisconsin delegates say they’ve moved on since then and are now backing Trump without reservation.
“Walker was my first choice,” said Crystal Berg, a Wisconsin delegate. “When he dropped out of the race, it was like, ‘OK, the rest of them are fine.’”
Wisconsin delegate Barbara Finger, wearing a large hat that resembled a head of cheese, agreed. (She grew up on a dairy farm, one of the state’s largest industries.)
“More and more so, the Wisconsin delegation is uniting behind Donald Trump,” she said.
