Henderson’s new city manager sworn in

Robert Murnane was sworn in as Henderson's new city manager Tuesday evening after the City Council voted to approve a contract with a starting salary of $228,500 a year.

Murnane, a nearly 20-year veteran of city government, was chosen in July to replace Jacob Snow, who resigned in April.

The city manager, who reports directly to the five-member council, functions as the CEO of Henderson government. He hires department heads and runs day-to-day operations.

Murnane's base salary is about the same as Snow's was.

Murnane also will get a vehicle allowance of $750 a month, or $9,000 a year; more than $450,000 in city-paid life insurance; and up to $3,000 in moving expenses so he can relocate from Boulder City. The city charter requires him to live in Henderson.

Murnane, who started with the city in 1996 as an engineer, has been Henderson's public works director since 2001. He also began overseeing parks and recreation last year when those services were merged with public works.

Council members, who picked him unanimously, cited his experience overseeing multiple city departments.

In brief remarks after being sworn in, Murnane thanked the council for its confidence in him and said he knows there is "a lot at stake."
