Nevada fishing report, Dec. 31, 2015

• LAKE MEAD — Government Wash has some great fishing to catch bait before catching striped bass and catfish. Lots of striper activity has made for a fun week on the water. Shad also has proven to be a successful bait. Check the weather before you head out.

LAKE MOHAVE — The best fishing area is near the dam in the Willow Beach area. Placer and Aztec coves also have been successful areas to fish. Anchovies are working well. Large stripers are possible, but patience and good weather are needed. Reports of 5 to 12 pounders are being caught up the river by the dam.

LAUGHLIN — Rotary Park was recently stocked with rainbow trout, and fishermen are doing well. Yellow Powerbait, nightcrawlers and various spinners are working well.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS — The Nevada Department of Wildlife stocked rainbow trout in the local ponds last week. The fish are averaging about 9 inches and have been taking Powerbait and Little Jacks.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — All reservoirs are covered with ice but are not all equally thick. Haymeadow was covered with less than 4 inches of ice. NDOW suggests using caution for ice fishing in the area. The best bait to use has been nightcrawlers and mealworms.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Ice conditions have improved this past week and are at 5 to 6 inches throughout the lake. Most anglers are sticking close to the dock area and finding success using nightcrawlers, mealworms or Rainbow Powerbait.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — The water levels have changed, causing thawing in some areas, and the ice thickness is unpredictable. A ranger suggested accessing the ice off the dam.
