Players to watch:
* Spanish phenom Adrian Mateos is first in chips with 17 players remaining in the $1,500 “Summer Solstice” No-limit Hold ’em event. Mateos won the 2013 WSOP Europe Main Event at age 19, and in May 2015 he binked the European Poker Tour’s Grand Final in Monte Carlo for $1.2 million. Online poker star Jon “PearlJammer” Turner, still looking for his first career WSOP bracelet, is in seventh place.
* Jason Koon sits in second place with 21 players left in the $5,000 Six-handed No-limit Hold ’em event. Koon has nearly $3.7 million in career live tournament earnings but hasn’t won a WSOP bracelet.
Wednesday’s highlights:
* England’s Benny Glaser won the $10,000 buy-in Omaha Hi-Low/8 or Better tournament, his second bracelet this week.
* Andrey Zaichenko won the $1,500 2-7 Limit Triple Draw Lowball event ($117,947), becoming only the 11th player from Russia to capture a WSOP bracelet. The 38-year-old sales and marketing executive from Moscow defeated Las Vegas resident Jameson Painter in heads-up play.
Quotable:
I believe a pro hockey team will really change the dynamic of Las Vegas in very positive ways. Very excited to see game 1!
