80-year-old man shoots, kills female burglar who said she was pregnant

LOS ANGELES — An 80-year-old Long Beach man says he shot and killed a woman he caught burglarizing his home, despite her plea that she was pregnant.

Tom Greer tells KNBC-TV that he confronted the woman and a male accomplice who were ransacking his house late Tuesday.

Greer says there was a struggle and the pair ran after he brandished a .22-caliber revolver and fired twice.

He says the woman told her she was going to have a baby, but he shot her anyway.

Deputy Police Chief David Hendricks confirmed at a Wednesday news conference that the man shot and killed the suspect after apparently interrupting a crime in progress. It was not immediately clear whether any charges would be filed against Greer for the shooting.

The male suspect got away.
