Air Force Airman Katlyn M. Porter graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Porter is the daughter of Donna Porter of Henderson and George Porter of Glendale, Calif. She is a 2011 graduate of Basic High School.

Navy boatswain’s mate Steven H. Valdez graduated from basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Valdez is the son of Hector and Stacey Valdez of Las Vegas. He is a 2010 graduate of Durango High School.

Air Force Airman Joseph A. Deneen graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Deneen is the son of Mary and Robert Deneen of Las Vegas. He is a 2009 graduate of Centennial High School.

Air Force Airman Thomas J. Hernandez graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Hernandez is the son of Dulce Lopez of Las Vegas.

Army Pvt. Cesar E. Serna graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Serna is the son of Cesar Serna of Las Vegas and is a 2013 graduate of Eldorado High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Christina Chavez graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Chavez is the daughter of Adela Chavez of Las Vegas and is a 2013 graduate of Desert Pines High School.

Remington Ford Drake of Henderson and Madison Taylor Blau of Las Vegas were named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at Washington University in St. Louis.

Ameyo L. Attila, Diondra A. Dilworth and Melaney A. Mayes, all of Las Vegas, competed in the 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Program and won the 2014 Achievement Scholarship.

Army National Guard Pvt. Wendy L. Williams graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. Williams is the daughter of Sharron and Trevett Williams of Henderson. She is a 2012 graduate of Basic High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Sharmaine A. Pagdonsolan has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. Pagdonsolan is the daughter of Reynaldo Pagdonsolan of Las Vegas. She is a 2013 graduate of Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy.

Army and Navy Academy Athletic Director Tom Tarantino has announced the 2014 spring season San Diego Union-Tribune Scholar Athletes, including Jordan Sendrall and Hans Steed, both of Henderson.

The Nevada Security Association gave scholarship prizes to two Silverado High School seniors: Quinntana Reid has been awarded the first place scholarship for $2,000, and Nicholas Meyer has been awarded $1,500 for second place.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln undergraduate students honored in conjunction with UNL’s All-University Honors Convocation April 13 included Sarah Elizabeth Fanning and Chelsea Brianne Finnegan, both of Henderson.

As part of the Graceland University Enactus Team, Leslie Carroll of Las Vegas finished in the top 12 in the nation at the Enactus National Finals in Cincinnati during the week of March 31. The nonprofit Enactus is a community of students using entrepreneurial action to change lives and create a more sustainable world.

Air Force Airman Sabrina A. Brandt graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Brandt is the daughter of Timothy and Arlene Brandt of Waynesville, N.C. She is a 2012 graduate of Sierra Vista High School.

Vincenzo Fresquez received the 2014 Management Outstanding Student of Achievement Award at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis and was recognized at an awards ceremony April 1. Fresquez is a senior from Las Vegas.

Las Vegas resident Ashley Nahin spent spring break serving others through James Madison University’s Alternative Spring Break Program. Nahin, a senior graphic design major traveled to Kansas City, Mo. to volunteer with Sheffield Place. The student-led ASB trips took place from March 8-15. Each trip focused on a social issue, such as homelessness, resettlement, environmentalism or community wellness, in a specific region. The university is in Harrisonburg, Va.

Army National Guard Pvt. Roger L. Navarrette III has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. Navarrette is the son of Roger Navarrette of Las Vegas and Christina Ezell of Moreno Valley, Calif.

Army National Guard Pfc. Michael Z. Howard graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., which consisted of basic military training and advanced individual training. Howard is the son of Garry and Holly Dale of North Las Vegas and is a 2013 graduate of Northwest Career and Technical Academy.

Army National Guard Pfc. Carlos A. Barreras graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., which consisted of basic military training and advanced individual training. Barreras is the son of Vilma Blanco of Las Vegas and is a 2013 graduate of Liberty High School.

Air Force Airman Andrew P. Pranzo graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Pranzo is the son of Patricia Drew Pranzo of Las Vegas.
