CALL FOR ARTISTS ISSUED

Artists are invited to submit their qualifications to paint utility boxes along Maryland Parkway as Part of Zap 7.

The project brings fine art to neighborhoods, and artists will be chosen to paint a utility box or a group of them on Maryland Parkway between Russell and Desert Inn roads.

The project is open to artists 18 or older who live in Clark County and did not participate in Zap 6 in the Whitney and Parkdale neighborhoods in 2014. Artists selected must attend an open community meeting planned for Feb. 27 at the Cambridge Recreation Center, 3930 S. Cambridge St.

Artists should send their applications with a current art resume and a CD containing seven digital images of their work. Images must be .jpg files between 72 and 200 dpi and no larger than 8 by 10 inches. The images must be numbered from one to seven, and a corresponding list must provide the artist’s name, the title of each work, the dimensions, the media, the year of completion and a brief description. Application materials will not be returned. Applications are available at tinyurl.com/zapseven.

Each artist selected is set to be paid $2,350 and must provide their own paint and supplies. Clark County will provide graffiti coating for artists to apply.

ANIMAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE SEEKS TO FILL FOUR VACANCIES

Clark County is accepting applications for four spots on the Animal Advisory Committee.

The volunteer advisory board meets at least once per quarter to discuss animal issues. Members are appointed by the County Commission.

The six-member committee is composed of people who represent specific groups, and the vacancies must be filled by people who fit the description for each of the openings, including a licensed veterinarian, a representative of a nonprofit humane group and an animal breeder or handler. The county is also accepting applications for a nonvoting student representative.

FOOD DRIVE COLLECTS 2,300 TURKEYS

HELP of Southern Nevada hosted its annual Turkey-Thon food drive from Nov. 20-22 to help provide local families in need with Thanksgiving meals.

The drive collected more than 2,300 frozen turkeys. Donations were collected at Smith’s locations throughout the valley.
