First Folio Shakespeare exhibit: A traveling exhibit featuring an original First Folio of works by William Shakespeare is set to be on display at the Special Collections in UNLV’s Lied Library from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 29. The Folger Shakespeare Library, in association with Cincinnati Museum Center and the American Library Association, is touring a First Folio of Shakespeare in 2016 to all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Several community events are to coincide with the exhibition, beginning with a sneak preview of the Nevada Conservatory Theater’s “The Bomb-itty of Errors,” a hip-hop theater adaptation of Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors,” set for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 in the Goldfield Room at the library. Faith initiative workshop: Professionals from the mental health, addiction prevention and recovery communities are planning to host an educational workshop for invited members of the faith community and interested members of the public from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 8 in second-floor Council Chambers at Las Vegas City Hall, 495 S. Main St. The workshop titled Let’s Start the Conversation — Addiction & Recovery: Finding a Foundation in Faith is intended to educate and build collaboration among those trying to help recovering addicts. Las Vegas Stories: Played Out on the Strip is planned for 7 p.m. Sept. 1 in the Jewel Box Theater at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. From 1940 to 1989, nearly every hotel on the Strip employed a full-time band or orchestra. In 1989, the musician’s union went on strike and almost all Strip musicians found themselves unemployed. “Ancient Rome — The Empire that Shaped the World”: The traveling summer exhibit is set to be on display at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, 900 Las Vegas Blvd. North, through Sept. 11. Visitors will take a hands-on journey through the Roman Imperial period, exploring military war machines, significant construction inventions such as pottery wheels and grinding mills, large-scale technical innovations such as cranes, water pumps and more.
