Doggie Paddle & Play Day: Dogs can go for a dip in the pool at the annual event, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Black Mountain Aquatic Complex, 599 Greenway Road. Dogs weighing 30 pounds or less swim from 8 to 9:15 a.m.; dogs weighing 31 to 70 pounds swim from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. or from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; and dogs weighing 71 pounds or more swim from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Dogs must be canine- and people-friendly. Women's car clinic: Imperial Auto & Truck Service Center, 1251 American Pacific Drive, plans to host the free event from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 15 for the first 15 women who register. The hands-on clinic will include training materials and cover general vehicle maintenance and how to tell when repairs are needed. Fifteen raffle prizes are set to be awarded. Five of the prizes are scheduled to offer the opportunity for winners to change the oil in their cars, with automotive supplies and equipment included. Guns'n'Hoses: Police officers and firefighters from across Southern Nevada are set to square off Sept. 5 in a friendly rivalry on the Peter Johann Soccer Field on the campus of UNLV, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. The family-friendly event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with pre-soccer game activities, including K-9 and SWAT unit demonstrations, police car and fire truck displays, a search and rescue helicopter exhibit, CPR training and a children's photo ID and fingerprinting station. Food will be for sale from food trucks on site. Bounce houses and face painting also are planned. The game is set for 7 p.m., with a ceremonial first kick from state Sen. Ruben Kihuen. Electrics Over Red Rock Festival: The Las Vegas Soaring Club plans a swap meet, barbecue and raffle during its first all-day, open electric flying festival set for Sept. 5 at the landing strip on the north side of West Charleston Boulevard between the last housing complex and the entrance to the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center. Experience the Spring Mountains after dark and put your senses to the test to learn about the adaptations of nocturnal animals.
