Cox Communications Young Artists' Concerto Competition: The Las Vegas Philharmonic plans its annual Cox Communications Young Artists' Concerto Competition from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 3 inside the Horn Theater Recital Hall at the College of Southern Nevada's Cheyenne campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. Young musicians who are legal residents of Nevada and are students through senior year in high school are eligible to compete. Restoration project: On Sept. 26, Friends of Nevada Wilderness, partnering with the U.S. Forest Service, is hosting a restoration project in Clark County for Southern Nevadans who want to give back to their public lands on this national day of service. Participants will be volunteering in historic Mountain Springs, along state Route 160 roughly 31 miles west of Las Vegas, to protect Native American and European settlement sites. In an effort to protect the sensitive historic and prehistoric sites that surround the springs in the area, Friends of Nevada Wilderness is seeking volunteers to help with naturalizing vehicle incursions into Rainbow Mountain Wilderness.
