NOMINATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Nominations are being sought for Nevada’s Senior Citizen of the Year. Anyone 60 or older who has lived in Nevada for at least five years is eligible to be nominated.

The National Silver Haired Congress Nevada Delegation, in partnership with the Aging Services Directors Organization, established the award in 2013. Las Vegas resident Raymonde Fiol, 77, was the 2014 recipient.

The deadline for nominations is March 31. Guidelines and nomination forms are available at nevshc.org or by calling 702 860-6349. The award will be presented in May.

NOMINEES SOUGHT FOR WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY AWARDS

Nominations are set to be accepted at tinyurl.com/gtlvaw through March 15 for the annual Las Vegas Women in Technology Awards.

The awards recognize the achievements of leading women in technology working in the greater Las Vegas area.

GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR NONPROFITS

The application process is open for nonprofits interested in Community Development Block Grants, Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS grants and Emergency Shelter Grants through the city of Las Vegas.

The deadline for submitting applications is noon Feb. 6. Applications are available at tinyurl.com/clvgrant.

Applicants must be properly licensed by the city business license department.

CHARITY FOOD DRIVE PLANNED AT SMITH’S

Participating Smith’s locations throughout the Las Vegas area are scheduled to host an annual food drive for Ronald McDonald House Charities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 31.

Shoppers preparing for football parties are encouraged to pick up extra items to donate to the charity that provides a home away from home for families who must travel to Las Vegas to receive critical medical treatment for their children.

DESERT NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE GROUP MEETS MONTHLY

Friends of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex meets monthly at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension offices, 8050 Paradise Road.

The group provides volunteers and other support to the National Wildlife Refuge, 30 miles northwest of Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs.
