MOTHER’S DAY EVENT PLANNED
AT ANGEL PARK

Angel Park Golf Club is planning a mother-daughter golf event during Mother’s Day weekend May 10-12. The event includes three rounds of golf, a three-night stay at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa, a wine-tasting reception, massages, tee gifts and prizes and a post-golf awards event. The schedule includes:

-- May 9: Arrive and check into the JW Marriott (special gift provided courtesy of the JW Marriott)

-- May 10: Practice round on Palm or Mountain course; welcome reception and wine tasting, 6 p.m. at Angel Park

-- May 11: Round one tee times between 10 a.m. and noon; post-round massage at the JW Marriott

-- May 12: Round two, 8 a.m. shotgun start; post-round awards

The cost is:

-- $699 per person, single occupancy

-- $499 per person, double occupancy

-- $299 for those who do not require lodging

WALK-A-THON PLANNED AT SUNSET PARK

The seventh annual National Angelman Syndrome Walk-a-thon is planned for 8 a.m. May 18 at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road. Registration is available at 7 a.m., though early registrars will receive a T-shirt. The event includes a two-mile walk or a 5K run/bicycle ride around the park. Fishing is allowed with a permit. Drinks, refreshments, entertainment, face painting, balloon twisting and more are planned.

NONPROFIT MEDICAL GROUP PLANS
5K RUN AND WALK

Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada has announced its Fight for Health Super Hero 5K Run and Walk, set from 6 a.m. to noon May 11 at the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North, routing through downtown Las Vegas to the future site of VMSN’s downtown flagship clinic.

All walkers and runners are encouraged to dress as superheroes for the event. All registrants are to receive a complimentary T-shirt, and the first 200 people are to receive a superhero cape.

Prizes are planned for the best costume, best team comic representation, most creative costume and best kids costume for children 13 or younger. The costume contest is set for 8 a.m.

Proceeds from the charity run and walk will go toward the organization’s clinic operations and to the Florence Nightingale Fund.

Early registration is open through May 8. Participants can register at vmsn.org or at active.com, reference VMSN Fight for Health, or at the event from 6 to 7:30 a.m. Event sponsorships are also available.

TWO OFF-ROAD RACING EVENTS PLANNED
AT ORLEANS arena

Two off-road racing events, GEICO Endurocross and GEICO Mini Moto, are set to return Friday and Sunday to the Orleans Arena, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.

GEICO EnduroCross is an indoor off-road race. The racing format is similar to a supercross event, using a starting gate, class heats and a series of qualifying rounds for the main event. Obstacles include boulders, rock fields, poles, sand, jumps and water sections. Racers from the United States and Europe are to participate.

GEICO Mini Moto is a mini-bike race featuring traditional supercross competitors racing on smaller 50cc and 100cc bikes. Participants are to include adult and youth riders from across the United States.

Endurocross is set for 8 p.m. Friday and Mini Moto at 5 p.m. Sunday. Endurocross tickets start at $37, and general admission Mini Moto tickets are $15. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Orleans Arena box office at 702-284-7777 or visiting orleansarena.com.

UNITED WAY PLANS GOLF BENEFIT

The second annual NV Energy — IBEW 396 United Way Golf Benefit is set for 6:30 a.m. May 21 at Silverstone Golf Club, 8600 Cupp Drive.

Registration for the four-person scramble event is at 6:30, and the shotgun start is set for 7 a.m. Awards and a banquet are planned immediately following play. Prices are $5 per ticket, $20 for five tickets and Mulligans $10 each. First-, second- and third-place prizes are planned.

WALTERS GOLF OFFERING FREE ROUND
TO VETERANS

Walters Golf has announced it will offer a complimentary round of golf to all active and retired military personnel May 26. All veterans with military-issued ID are invited to one free round of golf at any of Walters’ three properties: Bali Hai Golf Club, 5160 Las Vegas Blvd. South; Royal Links Golf Club, 5995 E. Vegas Valley Drive; and Desert Pines Golf Club, 3415 E. Bonanza Road.

SIGN UP FOR SUMMER CAMPS

The city of Las Vegas invites parents to enroll children in summer day camp programs at six area community centers. Open registration is ongoing at several locations until the camps are full.

Online registration and telephone registration will not be available for summer camps. Registration must be done in person. All locations will have limited enrollment. Contact each location for details.

Summer camps are scheduled for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 10. There will be no camp July 4.

Age-appropriate activities, including field trips, sports, special events, physical fitness and games, arts and crafts and nutrition training are planned under the supervision of trained staff members.

The following four locations will offer summer camps, priced at $75 per child for the week and $70 for additional children in the family:

n Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, 702-229-1607. Ages 6 to 11. Camp ends Aug. 23.

Two community centers plan to offer themed weeklong specialty camps with additional activities, cooking and/or field trips. Participants will enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies. The cost is $75 per child for the week and $70 for each additional child in the family. Registration for this program is set to open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. SHRINERS golf tournament
PLANNED FOR OCTOBER AT TPC summerlin

The 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open golf tournament is planned for Oct. 14-20 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle. The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is an official PGA Tour event. The 2013 tournament is set to feature more than 130 PGA Tour professionals competing for a $6 million purse, with a winner’s share of $1,080,000. All proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The event’s fourth annual Women’s Day luncheon, Kick Off Your Heels, is planned for Oct. 15. It will be catered and feature a guest speaker. Tickets are $125 per guest. The luncheon sold out in 2012, so early purchases are encouraged.

HUMANA GUIDANCE CENTERS SPONSOR WALKING GROUPS

Humana Guidance Centers are offering free walking groups led by a certified personal trainer. The program aims to positively impact seniors’ health by motivating and engaging them to take action and improve their fitness level and mental outlook by learning the proper walking and stretching techniques.

Participants will receive a free pedometer and at the end of each outing can upload their steps at a Guidance Center computer kiosk or at home to tracks steps taken, distance and calories burned.

LEISURE CONNECTION SOCIAL GROUP OUTINGS PLANNED EACH MONTH

Leisure Connection for those 22 or older with developmental disabilities is a social group planned each month. The outings are geared to assist high-functioning adults with social skills and independence in the community. AND RECREATION PROGRAMS

The North Las Vegas recreation division’s activity schedule of classes, sports and recreation programs is available.

Registration can be conducted online at cityofnorthlasvegas.com or in person at the Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane, and the Neighborhood Recreation Center, 1638 N. Bruce St. A list of offerings is available on the website.

The city’s recreation division offers a variety of affordable activities for adults and children, including personal training at the gym, adult and child dance classes, gymnastics, ceramics and martial arts.

Each of the programs encourages healthy exercise and social activities.

NEW A.G.E. EVENTS FOR THOSE
WITH DISABILITIES PLANNED

New A.G.E. for those 22 or older with developmental disabilities is set from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive. The program offers a variety of activities and special events that promote individuality, self-esteem and independence. The cost is $21 for one to three days, $28 for four days and $35 for five days each week.

GIRLS ON THE RUN OF LAS VEGAS
SEEKS TEAM MEMBERS

Girls on the Run of Las Vegas is looking to start a team of girls in third through fifth grade in northwest Las Vegas and Summerlin. The group forwards a youth development program, where girls meet twice a week for discussions regarding empowerment, self-confidence and healthy living. The group incorporates stretching, games and running during that time. At the end of the 12-week program, the entire Las Vegas chapter gets together for a 5K race.
