Dining Pick of the Week: Vallarta Taqueria

There is old adage that if you look hard enough for something, you’ll find it. Find Vallarta Taqueria and discover the Diaz Hernandez family preparing authentic Mexican dishes. Platters, served with rice and beans, include tampiquena (mesquite-grilled skirt steak), pork chop with green chiles, beef and chicken taquitos, fajitas with bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and avocado and bistec a la Mexicana (chopped steak with onions, tomatoes, jalapenos). Among the seafood dishes are oysters in the shell, fish or shrimp tacos, ceviche (shrimp, octopus), shrimp cocktail, camarones a la diabla and garlic shrimp. Popular soups are seven seas, beef, chicken and menudo (beef tripe and hominy in seasoned broth). There are tacos, Super Nachos with beef or chicken, Mexican sandwiches (grilled beef, ham, chorizo, Cuban), tostadas, burritos and quesadillas. Popular breakfasts include huevos con carne asada (steak and eggs), eggs with ham or chorizo and chilaquiles con carne asada, where soft tortilla chips are mixed with scrambled eggs and chili sauce and served with steak. Huaraches are thick homemade corn tortillas topped with chicken or grilled beef, beans, cilantro, onion and cheese. Enjoy a papaya, strawberry, banana or chocolate ice cream shake.
