New citizens recognized: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area welcomed 103 new U.S. citizens representing 30 countries during a special naturalization ceremony March 12 from the following 30 countries: Argentina, Belize, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burma, Canada, China, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Romania, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Venezuela, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe. Navy midshipman: Navy Midshipman Christopher Goodney of Las Vegas participated in the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps ship selection draft as a future member of the U.S. Navy’s Surface Warfare Officer community. The 2012 Rancho High School graduate, has selected to serve aboard the USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52).

Music award: The Volunteer Council of the League of American Orchestras announced that the Las Vegas Philharmonic Guild won two Roundtable Awards in the annual Gold Book competition. The winning projects are titled Runway Rhythms and Adopt-A-Musician. The award will be presented at the League’s National Conference in Baltimore June 9-11.

Honor rolls:

— Students who made the fall 2015 dean’s honor roll at Oklahoma University include Dominique Kopecky, Syrina Lopez, Harrison Langford, Casey Andrews and Yifan Wang, all of Las Vegas.

— Fernando Rocha of Las Vegas made the fall 2015 provost’s list at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

— Ricky Arellano and Jennifer Smulo, both of Las Vegas, made the fall 2015 dean’s list at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

— Kiley Harrison of Las Vegs made the fall 2015 president’s list at Kent State University in Ohio.

— Students who made the fall 2015 dean’s list at University of Evansville in Indiana include: Alexandra Arguello, Hannah Cava and Sierra Selene Pagan, all of Las Vegas.

— Nickolas Maddalena of Las Vegas was awarded Gold Stars by The Citadel for earning a grade point ratio of 3.7 or higher during the 2015 fall semester. Students that achieve Gold Star recognition are also placed on The Citadel’s Dean’s List.

— Kristen Given of Las Vegas made the fall 2015 dean’s list at Kent State University in Ohio.

— Justin Alex Chen of Henderson made the fall 2015 dean’s list at the University of Rhode Island.

— Taylor Stueve of Las Vegas made the fall 2015 honor roll at Emporia State University in Kansas.

— Jordyn Derflinger of Henderson made the fall 2015 dean’s list at University of Minnesota Crookston.

Graduations:

— U.S. Air Force Airman Kimberly D. Mott graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Mott is the daughter of D’on Thomspon of Heriman, Utah, and Craig Mott of Las Vegas.

— Tatiana Pagan of Las Vegas graduated during winter commencement from the University of Evansville in Indiana.

— Shreyyas Vanarase of Las Vegas graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

— U.S. Army National Guard Pvt. Brian M. Anderson graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Anderson is the son of Keith Anderson of Las Vegas and is a 2010 graduate of Mojave High School.

— U.S. Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Justin Dumont graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Dumont is the son of John Dumont of Las Vegas and is a 2006 graduate of Silverado High School.
