Work of art, little else

If you’ve driven past the 1400 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South in the last year, you’ve seen Wendell Edwards’ artwork.

CAROLING, VEGAS-STYLE

You certainly are a talented — not to mention, festive — bunch.

A Damn Good Time

They describe it as “Rage Against The Clashing Peppers,” but that doesn’t even begin to encapsulate the (barely) controlled chaos that is the sound of the Funkyjahpunkys. Their shows are manic outbursts of energy, their tunes are boundless and they always seem to be having the time of their lives. Read on as the band lets us in on the fun.

Palace Station brings back laughs

The laughs return to Palace Station, where the enclosed lounge reverts to stand-up comedy after tabling a big expansion into a country nightclub.

A few musical faves of the year

If Santa didn’t leave the following CDs under your Christmas tree this year, you need to find the dude.

Since it’s going to be pretty last minute, any holiday greeting you send today needs to be extra special. Visit singwiththeking.com and, using your phone, record a duet of you singing “Blue Christmas” with Elvis himself. It will then be e-mailed to that special someone. That’s enough to make your mom tear up — and you won’t be the heel of the family for failing to acknowledge Christmas.

On the Cheap

We’re in the throes of a recession and our economy is shrinking by the day, but there’s at least one good thing to be found in all the bad news: This upcoming New Year’s Eve probably will be the most affordable in recent years.

High winds, heavy snow closes roads into Mount Charleston area

Heavy snowfall and gusts up to 90 mph prompted authorities to close state routes 156 and 157 on Thursday to all motorists except residents going into Mount Charleston. Some who drove the mountainous routes slid off the snow-coated roads, though no injuries were reported. Snowplow driver Mike Guerino said he had never seen such a fierce snowstorm in the 20 years he’s cleared roads in this area. “Not with this severe of a wind,” Guerino said. “There’s no visibility.”
