Readers hip to fried zucchini

In a month or so gardeners in other parts of the country will be trying to get rid of a surfeit of zucchini, but that’s one problem we don’t have in the desert. Still, there’s clearly a lot of interest in the squash; when Dean B. Pomerantz asked for suggestions for restaurants that serve long, thin, battered and fried zucchini, readers were all over it.

Honest-to-Goodness Homegrown

The area near Decatur Boulevard and Horse Road is like many others in the northern part of the valley, with new subdivisions named for other (mostly unlikely) parts of the country leap-frogged by swatches of native desert and a very Las Vegas soundtrack courtesy of manufacturers and operators of heavy equipment.

Shuffle Master’s profit increases 50 percent despite payouts

Home sales up, prices down

Home sales continued to post big numbers in May and the median price dipped 1.2 percent, or $1,720, from the previous month, the smallest decline since November 2007, the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors reported Tuesday.

Swine flu outbreak won’t close Marion Earl Elementary School, officials say

When Vinnie Cervoni went to pick up his 6-year-old son, Giovanni, from Marion Earl Elementary School on Wednesday, he wasn’t sure whether he would take him back to school today. Cervoni said a confirmed outbreak of swine flu there might cause him to keep his son home as a precaution.
