Tiger’s jam puts sponsors on spot

The 13th edition of Tiger Jam might be in, well, a bit of a jam. An annual fixture at Mandalay Bay since 1998, the biggest fundraiser for the Tiger Woods Foundation is sponsored by AT&T, one of Woods’ biggest sponsors.

Animal moving proposal opposed

Totally out of touch with middle America

I was blessed to spend Thanksgiving in my beloved home state of Oklahoma, and had the chance to visit with real people in small towns during that welcomed break from the craziness of Washington, D.C. During those few days of respite, I saw up close and personal how entirely out of touch Washington is with middle America.

The global warming fraud is melting

By now, you doubtless know a dastardly hacker broke into the e-mail system at the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in Britain late last month, grabbing and making public more than 1,000 e-mails that expose how these “scientific experts,” cited so often to confirm “man-made global warming,” have been fudging their data, conspiring to remove global warming skeptics from the teams that “peer-review” their doctored data for publication, and advising each other to delete incriminating e-mails being sought under the public disclosure laws.

Be one of thousands to help in count

During the next month, thousands of “citizen scientists” will participate in the 110th Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Braving cold and often inclement conditions, these volunteers assemble before dawn in pre-selected locations between Dec. 14 and Jan. 5 to tally the birds they see during a full day in the outdoors. In Nevada, counts are planned for locations in Southern Nevada, as well as sites near Elko, Snake Valley near Great Basin National Park, Carson City and Minden.

Get weeds under control early this winter

While removing vegetables from my garden, I found annual sow thistle, dandelion, mustard and other weeds camping in my yard. Normally my wife, Barbara, takes care of weeds, but she’s under the weather. I had to do something quick, because many were setting seed.
