Director quits ‘Hobbit’ film over production delay

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Hollywood director Guillermo del Toro said Monday that production delays have forced him to quit the planned film version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” a two-part prequel to New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson’s blockbuster trilogy “Lord of the Rings.” “In light of ongoing delays in the setting of a start date for filming The Hobbit, I am faced with the hardest decision of my life,” del Toro told a “Lord of the Rings” fan website.

Temptations singer Ali-Ollie Woodson dies at 58

DETROIT — Ali-Ollie Woodson, who led the legendary Motown quintet The Temptations in the 1980s and ’90s and helped restore them to their hit-making glory with songs including “Treat Her Like A Lady,” has died, a friend said. He was 58.

‘Shrek’ wins weekend with $55.7M, ‘Sex’ does $37M

With $55.7 million over the long Memorial Day holiday, DreamWorks Animation’s “Shrek Forever After” was No. 1 for a second-straight weekend. The movie raised its 10-day domestic total to $145.5 million.
