Harrah’s plans retail, entertainment center

Harrah’s Entertainment is revisiting a plan to develop a retail and entertainment center in a short thoroughfare that runs from the Strip to Audrie Street between the Flamingo and O’Sheas, a corporate spokeswoman said Thursday.

Moapa fire burns 10 homes, ranch once owned by Howard Hughes

A wildfire burned more than 680 acres and at least 15 buildings Thursday in Moapa, including the Warm Springs Ranch once owned by Howard Hughes. The fire started around 10 a.m. and vegetation at the ranch about 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas. By 9 p.m., firefighters battling the blaze from the ground and air had it under control, but 10 homes were destroyed as the inferno ripped through the small community.

Fire crews work overnight to contain Mount Charleston blaze

Crews, including more than 100 federal, state and local firefighters and an air tanker, worked through the night battling a 13-acre wildfire on Mount Charleston. The fire, reported around 11 a.m. Thursday, prompted evacuations of homes and a campground. It started in the Cathedral Rock area near the end of state Route 157.

Corrections

A story in Wednesday’s Review-Journal about the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste plan incorrectly reported the amount of nuclear waste that would be contained at the site. The correct amount is 77,000 tons.
