Democrat Kate Marshall on Wednesday continued to hammer Republican Mark Amodei as someone who killed jobs as a legislator and who would reduce Social Security and Medicare benefits should he win Sept. 13’s special election for Congressional District 2. An underdog in a district that has 30,000 more Republicans than Democrats,
Marshall went on the offensive in the first of three debates in the race to fill former Rep. Dean Heller’s seat.

North Las Vegas laying off 21, closing recreation centers

The North Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday approved the layoffs of 21 employees and the closure of city recreation centers to help bridge a $4.4 million shortfall in the city’s fiscal 2012 budget.
