Journey to Oregon could start Tuesday for CJ the chimp

CJ , the chimp that escaped from her cage twice in about a month, is scheduled to leave Las Vegas as early as Tuesday morning. Lee Watkinson, who owns CJ with his fiance, Timmi De Rosa, said officials from Chimps, Inc., a sanctuary in Bend, Ore., will arrive in Las Vegas Monday night. If everything goes to plan, CJ will leave sometime Tuesday.

Nevada needs strict laws for exotic pets

An Aug. 8, a Review-Journal editorial urged state and local officials to go slow when considering laws involving the ownership of exotic animals (“Animal welfare: Keep cool head when writing law”). But the only uncharted jungle Nevada legislators have to worry about walking through is the menagerie of dangerous, wild animals living in citizens’ backyards across their state.
