“Art Motel,” a vacant motel at 225 N. Seventh St., transformed into an interactive art project at the music and arts festival. “All these great contemporary street artists around the world are basically putting their stamp on Las Vegas,” one artist noted.
The first day of the annual Life Is Beautiful Festival kicked off Friday, as crowds of people began to arrive in downtown Las Vegas, but not everyone was feeling festive. Some business owners say the festival hurts profits.
The Faith Lutheran Theatre Company plans to perform “All Shook Up,” which is based on William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” but features Elvis Presley as the star. It includes more than 20 of Presley’s greatest hits, including “Jailhouse Rock” and “It’s Now or Never.”
Visitors to Jean-Marie Auboine’s business are greeted by the overpowering fragrance of chocolate and perfectly preserved chocolate statues. A dragon, eagle, monkey and goblin occupy a desk that would usually belong to a receptionist.
