A Rebel won the Southern Highlands Collegiate, the home golf tournament for the UNLV men’s golf team, but it probably wasn’t who the hometown fans wanted.
The golf season was special for UNLV and junior John Oda. The men’s team reached the elite eight of the NCAA championships and won the West Lafayette Regional and Mountain West tournament. The Rebels finished the year ranked 12th in the country.

Dana Finkelstein shot a 1-over-par 72 to help the UNLV women’s golf team to third place after the first round of the 18-team NCAA St. George Regional on Thursday in St. George, Utah. Finkelstein is in a five-way tie for fourth place.
UNLV golfer John Oda was named the Mountain West’s freshman of the year, and Oda joined senior teammates Kurt Kitayama and Carl Jonson on the 10-member all-conference team announced Thursday.
