Boy hit by car in west Las Vegas seriously injured

A teenage boy was hospitalized with serious injuries Monday after he was hit by a small SUV in the west valley and dragged more than 300 feet, Las Vegas police said.
He is expected to survive, police added.
Police responded to the intersection of Indigo Drive and West Charleston Boulevard, near Hualapai Way, just before 3:20 p.m. after receiving a report of a juvenile who was hit by a car. Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Troy Barrett said the vehicle, a small SUV, was turning right onto Charleston from the southbound lane on Indigo.
Preliminary evidence suggests the boy was in a crosswalk on Indigo and had the right of way, police said. The boy was under the car and was dragged more than 300 feet by the time the vehicle stopped, police said.
The boy, who Barrett said is about 14 years old, was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.
Police said impairment does not seem to be a factor in the crash. The driver stayed on scene, cooperated with police and was ticketed.
The intersection of Charleston and Indigo was closed for about three hours as authorities investigated, but the streets have since reopened.
