1 dead, 1 injured in crash near Goodsprings

One man died and another person was injured after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon near Goodsprings.

The crash, involving a Ford Windstar minivan and a Ford Explorer, happened about 3 p.m. in the 3100 block of Sandy Valley Road, about 10 miles west of Goodsprings, Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Michael Rodriguez said.

The man driving the Windstar was westbound on Sandy Valley Road and crossed over to oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with the Explorer, Metro Lt. Timothy Hatchett said.

The man driving the Windstar was flown to University Medical Center where he later died.

The Explorer’s driver, a woman in her 50s, and her passenger, a man in his 30s, both of Jean, had moderate injuries, police said in a news release. The Explorer’s driver was taken to UMC by ambulance, Hatchett said.

The news release said the Windstar driver was not wearing a seat belt and had open containers of alcohol in the car.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the identity of the man who died once next of kin has been notified.
