Updated February 2, 2019 - 11:59 am

TOLLESON, Ariz. — Phoenix area authorities say they are investigating an attack on an Uber driver whose throat was slashed in the second area assault on a ride-share driver in less than a week.

Police say the attack occurred Thursday night in the western suburb of Tolleson when the driver dropped off a passenger near McDowell Road and 91st Avenue.

Officials said the victim went to a hospital in nearby Goodyear. The extent of his injuries was unknown.

Authorities arrested 45-year-old Francisco J. Diaz, who is accused of attempted murder and aggravated assault. During his initial court appearance Friday, the judge said an attorney would be appointed for him.

The attack comes less than a week after a pregnant 39-year-old Lyft driver was stabbed and killed in Tempe. A 22-year-old man was arrested.
