7 horrible and hilarious marriage proposals
There are many different ways a man can pop the question. Some are cute, some are romantic, some are clever… and then some are just plain awful.
On Reddit, people were asked to share terrible marriage proposals that they or someone they knew had experienced. Here are 7 of the many unbelievable “no, just no” moments they shared:
1. The creep approach
“I have a friend, she was around 18 or 19 at the time, and that’s around the time religious girls from Lakewood start seriously looking for husbands. She and this young yeshiva lad were introduced about 2 weeks before and were courting. Well, she’s in the parking lot bringing back groceries to her car from a shopping trip when suddenly a gigantic double decker bus drives up in front of her with an enormous red ribbon tied around it. He bounds out of the bus, payot flying, gets down on one knee, and says,’Chumi, will you help me fill this bus?’
As in, with children.”
2. The McJoke
“I knew a guy who was at McDonalds with his girlfriend one time, and as a joke he wrapped a fry around her finger and said, ‘Will you McMarry me?’
She started crying and called her mom and started planning the wedding the next day. He hadn’t meant to propose but he didn’t have the heart to tell her so, so he just married her.”
3. The business merger
“My best friend’s parents got married when her dad showed her mom a spreadsheet he had made showing how much money they would save on taxes and housing and health insurance if they got married. He didn’t have a ring for her because ‘that would hurt the bottom line.’ She said yes, and they are still together, so it must have been a great spreadsheet…”
4. The threat
“I proposed on a dinner cruise and told her I was going to throw her overboard if she said no. The couple next to us interrupted to ask if she needed help.”
5. The stinky situation
“My dad stuck the ring in a stick of deodorant, then told my mom she needed to use it. Small argument ensues when mom tells dad she does not need it…”
6. The loser
“I went to go watch some of my friends fight, and there was a fight where a really fit guy was fighting against a fairly out of shape, untrained guy. It really looked like it was set up as a gimme fight for the taller, fitter guy.
The chubby guy clocked the fit guy with a nice hook, and he was never able to recover.
After the fight, the fit guy has his girlfriend come into the cage, and he proposed to her, still bloodied from his loss.”
7. The poor proposal
“Saw a couple in a jewelry store when my wife and I were looking. Guy asks to see a ring, kneels, [and asks] ‘Will you marry me?’
She flips….’Yes, yes, yes!!’
He says ‘Great!’ then hands the ring back to the employee and tries to leave the store. He proposed with a borrowed ring. Tries to explain to the girl he couldn’t afford the ring but wanted to propose correctly. She slaps him so hard my face hurt (she put her whole body into the slap) and starts screaming about how her mother was right, etc. etc.No clue if they ever got together, but it was hard to watch.”
