‘Terminator Genisys’ not worth your time, travel

Please, Hollywood, keep Jai Courtney away from the next “Indiana Jones” movie unless he buys a ticket.

The actor seems like a nice enough guy. And none of this is his fault — well, not much of it anyway.

But he was cast as John McClane’s son in the fifth “Die Hard” movie, 2013’s “A Good Day to Die Hard,” which was so awful it may have done what a generation of terrorists couldn’t by killing off McClane once and for all.

Now, he’s in the fifth “Terminator” movie, playing Kyle Reese in this week’s “Terminator Genisys,” which is not good. It’s not “A Good Day to Die Hard” bad, but clearly Courtney and fifth installments of beloved franchises don’t mix. Hence the “Indiana Jones” plea, because Shia LaBeouf has already done enough damage.

“Genisys” gets off to an intriguing start by re-creating scenes from the 1984 original with some slight tweaks. And there’s plenty of fun to be had in watching Arnold Schwarzenegger, at age 67, battle a CGI, body-doubled version of himself from 1984. But that’s pretty much where the enjoyment begins and ends.

It’s never a good sign when Schwarzenegger’s T-800 cyborg has more charm and charisma than anyone else on the screen. Combined.

Jason Clarke makes a much less compelling John Connor than Christian Bale did in “Terminator Salvation,” which is one of the few good things you could ever say about “Terminator Salvation.”

Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones’ ” Khaleesi) doesn’t seem nearly as battle-ready as she should.

And Courtney doesn’t bring much to the party except a chiseled body that would be more at home in this week’s other big release, “Magic Mike XXL.” Seriously, how are you supposed to get that kind of definition when you’ve spent your entire life running from Terminators?

There’s a twist in “Terminator Genisys” — curiously spoiled during the trailer — that makes the movie difficult to write about. It also makes it difficult to enjoy.
