Vegas gets small break from heat
Storms forming in the mountains might not bring rain to the Las Vegas Valley, the National Weather Service said.
However, try to enjoy the cooler-than-usual Sunday as temperatures are almost 15 degrees cooler than they should be, meteorologist Reid Wolcott said.
About 12:30 p.m., the thermometer had only hit 87 degrees and the high might not make it to the forecast 91 degrees, Wolcott said, adding that this is the hottest time of the year and the normal high stands about 105 degrees.
A flash flood watch issued by the weather service Sunday morning remains in place until the evening.
Showers and possible thunderstorms projected for the mountains can trigger activity that brings rain to the valley, meteorologist Reid Wolcott said, but it will depend on how much wind they push toward it.
The mountains, Mount Charleston to the west and Sheep Range to the north, are threatened by forecast precipitation until Sunday evening and there is a 40 percent chance it will rain in the valley, Wolcott said.
