Dining Pick of the Week: ASCAR Cafe

ASCAR Cafe

3231 N. Decatur Blvd., Suite 122, 702-492-0102

From ASCAR Cafe’s tongue-in-cheek name (a play off of NASCAR) to little decor touches such as a Route 66 sign, toy cars and a miniature gas pump, it’s no surprise to learn that the owner also has a car repair business. The tiny eatery just north of Cheyenne Avenue offers no table seating. A couple of stools are available for the lone diner who wants to eat at the sideboard. Other than that, this is a takeout joint. The menu is dominated by catfish, chicken (fingers or wings), salads and burgers, which come in five styles. The ASCAR Turkey Burger has a patty packed inside grilled Hawaiian sweet bread. The other burgers feature beef. The Yukon (vehicle names abound on the menu) features a single patty, while the Denali has two patties, and the Escalade has three — better have a hinged jaw for that one. The Cooper offers three sliders. Toppings include lettuce, tomato, pickle, onions, mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise. Onion strings, bacon and cheese also can be added. The catfish comes in two- and four-piece meals with fries. A 10-piece box also is available. Sides are hush puppies, french fries, onion rings and okra. ASCAR Cafe is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 6 p..m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, visit facebook.com/ascarcafe.
